It doesn’t matter where you work in the country, every builder will tell you that storage often becomes an issue during construction. It’s not a problem for every job as some of them have plenty of space for you to operate around. Where it really becomes an issue is when the property isn’t big enough and you need to have space for materials, work trucks, heavy-duty equipment and more. This can make things a little tricky and you need to find some creative ways to make space.
How To Make Some Extra Space
When you work on a construction site, make sure that you are giving yourself as much space as possible, especially if you need to rent a crane or have a large order of materials coming in. It’s also a good idea to keep areas clear for safety reasons. The more clutter you have, the higher the possibility of a mistake or injury occurring and that’s something everyone would like to avoid. Here are a few ways you can make some space:
- Utilize other storage options: If you can find affordable, short-term space you can rent out to keep your materials, waste or even your vehicles at, then utilize it. This will not only help provide you with some extra space, but it will keep these items safe as they are out of the way.
- Schedule carefully: Try to schedule the materials and subcontractors carefully so that they are not on top of each other. For example, don’t schedule the crane rental company at the same time as the plumbing supplies. If they can be kept separate, then do it.
- Find a nearby parking lot: Another issue that comes up is if you have a crew of 10-20 and everyone gets to work in their own vehicles. If this is a problem, you can always find a nearby parking lot where a grocery store or shopping plaza is. Have your crew meet there in the morning and carpool to the job site. This can reduce the number of vehicles considerably.
You have a lot to think about when you are handling an entire job site. While your focus needs to be on the project itself, you do want to make sure that you take other things like storage into consideration because it will not only make things easier on you as far as having space to work and operate, but it will also help prevent accidents from happening or damaging materials that are waiting to be installed.
