Everyone has their own personal New Year’s Resolutions and the same can be said for businesses as well. Your goal in 2018 for your construction company is to get bigger, make more money and become a leader in your area. That’s a great goal but you want to make sure that you start the year off on the right foot and give yourself the best possible chance of accomplishing that. It’s not something that’s going to be done quickly, you need a solid game plan and to give it time to work.

Whether you want to just be better at what you do, get more customers or make more of a profit on each one of your jobs, there are things you can do that will show immediate and long-term improvements. Here are some areas you should get started in to reach your 2018 goals:

  • Improve efficiency: One of the reasons you may not be making enough profit on each job or you may not have time to get more projects in is because you need to be more efficient. This can be anything from designating time to clean up every day, keeping the jobsite clean to prevent accidents or have better scheduling and bookkeeping methods.
  • Improve your marketing strategy: Everyone needs to advertise, whether it’s having a website or networking with the right people. If one of your goals for 2018 is to get more work in then you need to look at ways of improving your marketing plan and getting more out of it.
  • Expand your services: If you specialize in one area of construction, like shell work for example, you may consider adding to your services. What are you good at right now? For example, if building porches or fences wouldn’t be that challenging for you or your crew, start advertising those services as well.
  • Find subcontractors you can count on: If you are not suing many subcontractors right now, it’s a good idea to start looking for some, especially if you plan on bringing in more work or bigger projects. Having an idea of who you would hire when you need help will save you time. For example, you may never have had the need to hire a crane rental company but if you take on bigger projects you probably will. So do some research and find someone you can rely on.

As long as you set realistic goals for the New Year and work hard to accomplish them, you should see a great deal of success. Remember, you built a company based on hard work and determination so moving forward you already know what it’s going to take to reach your goals.
